Job summary

Defence Health is seeking a technically strong and commercially minded Statutory & Reporting Manager to lead its statutory financial reporting, regulatory reporting and financial control activities. You will report to the Head of Finance & Actuarial and ensure the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of financial information for the Board, regulators and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years leadership experience.
• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
• CA, CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
• Significant experience in statutory financial reporting, financial control and governance.
• Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and financial reporting requirements.
• Experience managing external audit processes.
• Experience in regulatory or prudential reporting within financial services, insurance or private health insurance.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to manage competing deadlines and deliver high-quality outputs with accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Lead the preparation and delivery of accurate and timely statutory financial statements, disclosures, supporting schedules and technical accounting papers.
• Coordinate financial reporting cycles, including month-end, quarter-end and year-end close processes.
• Lead regulatory and prudential reporting activities, ensuring submissions are accurate, complete, timely and well controlled.
• Maintain a strong financial control environment, including balance sheet reconciliations, quality assurance and reporting governance.
• Act as a key Finance contact for external audit and assurance activities, coordinating requests and supporting timely resolution of findings.
• Provide technical accounting advice across Finance and the broader business, including assessment of complex or judgemental transactions.
• Partner with Finance, Actuarial, Risk, Capital, Investments, Data & Insights and Technology teams to strengthen reporting outcomes.

About the role

We’re looking for a technically strong and commercially minded Statutory & Reporting Manager to lead Defence Health’s statutory financial reporting, regulatory reporting and financial control activities.

Reporting to the Head of Finance & Actuarial, you will play a key role in ensuring the integrity, accuracy and timeliness of financial information provided to the Board, Enterprise Leadership Team, regulators and other key stakeholders. You’ll also help evolve our Finance reporting environment through improved processes, stronger controls, automation and better use of data.

About you

You’re an experienced finance professional who combines technical accounting expertise with strong judgement, attention to detail and the ability to translate complex reporting requirements into practical business outcomes.

You will bring:

• A minimum of 4 years Leadership experience
• A tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• CA, CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification.
• Significant experience in statutory financial reporting, financial control and financial reporting governance.
• Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards and financial reporting requirements.

• Experience in regulatory or prudential reporting, ideally within financial services, insurance or private health insurance
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• The ability to manage competing deadlines and deliver high-quality outputs with accuracy and care.
