Public Sector People is partnering with Warrumbungle Shire Council to recruit an experienced Manager Roads, offering an opportunity to lead one of Council's most significant operational functions and make a lasting contribution to the region's infrastructure and communities.
Spanning more than 12,000 square kilometres, Warrumbungle Shire is home to welcoming rural communities, spectacular national parks and Australia's first Dark Sky Park.
Reporting to the Director Infrastructure Services, you will oversee the maintenance and operational delivery of Council's 2,518km road network, comprising 975km of sealed and 1,543km of unsealed roads.
This is a hands‑on leadership position, combining operational management, financial oversight and contract delivery with the opportunity to build on recent improvements to team culture, maintenance practices and service delivery.
Leading a team of engineers, supervisors and operational staff, you will be responsible for coordinating Council's extensive roads maintenance programs across a geographically diverse network.
Importantly, this is a working management role. You'll remain closely involved in operational decision‑making, financial management and problem‑solving, providing practical leadership rather than operating solely at a strategic level.
We're seeking an experienced roads or infrastructure professional who combines strong operational knowledge with the leadership capability to manage a substantial workforce.
Previous NSW local government and RMCC experience will be highly regarded, although candidates from other relevant infrastructure environments are encouraged to apply.
Above all, Council is seeking a visible, collaborative and technically credible leader who can build trust, take ownership and deliver results.
Located in the heart of regional NSW, Warrumbungle Shire offers a unique lifestyle surrounded by spectacular natural landscapes, welcoming communities and wide‑open spaces.
From the Warrumbungle National Park to internationally recognised dark skies, the region offers an opportunity to escape the pace of metropolitan living while taking on a meaningful leadership position.
With flexibility to work from Coonabarabran or Coolah, this is an opportunity to make a genuine difference while enjoying the benefits of regional life.
