Job summary

University of Melbourne invites applications for a leadership role to manage flagship public health programmes across MDU PHL and the Centre for Pathogen Genomics. You will coordinate AusPathoGen, CDGN and related networks to embed pathogen genomics into national surveillance and response.

You will engage Australian CDC, health departments and regional partners, shaping impactful public health policy and practice.

Qualifications

• Hold tertiary qualification and experience in public health or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrate success managing large-scale public health projects with complex, multi-jurisdictional stakeholder environments.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning and delivery of public health initiatives, including workplans, governance structures, documentation and strategic funding opportunities.
• Manage relationships with Australian CDC, Commonwealth and state health departments, funders and public health networks.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex projects, organising meetings, workshops, technical activities and high-quality reporting outputs.
• Oversee programme compliance with funding agreements, including reporting, evaluation, budgeting, finance tracking and communication requirements.
• Support grant applications, stakeholder engagement and supervision of project management staff to expand public health activities.

Your new team – Department of Microbiology and Immunology

You will join the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, part of the School of Biomedical Sciences. MDU PHL is a century-old, NATA-accredited public health laboratory leading diagnostics, reference services and pathogen genomics. You will collaborate with experts across genomics, epidemiology and bioinformatics, working on programmes with national and regional impact.
