Job summary

UNSW Canberra is seeking a Manager Language Services to lead a high-value, government-facing education contract in Barton, Canberra. The role requires strategic oversight of casual language teachers, strong stakeholder engagement, and delivery excellence in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will manage performance reporting, budgets, and cross-unit collaboration while ensuring compliance with university policies and government requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee delivery and maintenance of the contract services to the Government client within timeframes and standards
  • Provide leadership and support to administration and casual staff to achieve goals
  • Prepare high-level responses for quotes and nurture relationships with Commonwealth agencies
  • Oversee reporting on performance, budget, and project objectives
  • Implement management procedures to support networks and stakeholder engagement
  • Influence priorities, programs and budgets for major projects
  • Apply knowledge of university policies and external environment

Employment type: Full-time, on-site 5 days per week, 35 hours

Duration: Continuing

Remuneration: Level 8 from $132,445 + leave loading + 17% super

Location: Barton, Canberra

Work rights required: Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. Candidates hold Australian Citizenship and be able to obtain and maintain security clearance to be considered for this position.

Why Your Role Matters

Working in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, the Manager will be responsible for the successful delivery of a large-scale high-value education contract with a government department. The Manager will monitor performance and lead a large pool of casual language teachers to deliver educational services to a high standard. The Manager will promote and manage productive relationships with University and Government colleagues, visitors and students. The Manager reports to Herad of Innovation & Industry Partnerships and has 4 direct reports and a large cohort of casual staff to supervise.

Accountabilities
  • Oversee the successful implementation and maintenance of the University’s delivery of the contract services in accordance with best practice, within agreed timeframes, and at the standards required by the Government client.
  • Provide effective leadership, direction, and support to the administration team and pool of casual staff to achieve goals and ensure the continued improvement of services for learners and the Government client.
  • Engage in and support activities, including preparing high-level responses for government requests for quotes, and nurture relationships with a broad range of Commonwealth agencies.
  • Oversee the extensive production and review of performance, budget, project objective and other internal and external reporting associated with the provision of services to the Government client.
  • Initiate, advise and implement management procedures that support and maintain networks, links and relationships, while providing exceptional sustainable stakeholder engagement and communication skills, overseeing the Government client relations.
  • Take a leading operational role in providing influence over the establishment of priorities, programs and/or budgets (formulation and expenditure) for a major specialised project with scope to reset priorities or resources within overall program objectives.
  • Apply a thorough knowledge of University-wide policies, the external environment (e.g. government legislation, guidelines and requirements), diverse research and teaching activities.
Who You Are (skills And Experience)
  • Tertiary qualifications with relevant experience, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Evidence of success in establishing, cultivating and maintaining high level relationships, with the ability to influence key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in an agile, fast paced environment with competing demands and deadlines.
  • Excellent ability to manage and schedule a large number of employees to deliver services to an external supplier.
  • Demonstrated success in project management and leadership.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to work on several projects in an efficient manner.
