Job summary

Westpac in Sydney is seeking a Manager, AI Models to join the independent Model Risk team. You will validate AI models, work with business and risk teams, and contribute to evolving model risk practices.

This permanent full-time role offers hybrid work arrangements from Sydney/Warrane, Gadigal Country with strong governance expectations and leadership opportunities in AI initiatives.

Qualifications

• Experience with AI models, including machine learning and generative AI techniques.
• Strong background in model validation, model development, or a related analytical discipline.
• Programming capability using Python, SQL, R or SAS.
• Ability to influence and communicate effectively with both technical and non technical stakeholders.
• Strong problem solving skills with the ability to challenge constructively and mentor others.

• Conduct independent model validations for AI models across the organisation.
• Partner with business and risk teams to ensure models are robust and well governed.

What’s the role?

Artificial intelligence is transforming the way organisations operate, and you'll have a front row seat to that transformation. As Manager, AI Models, you'll join Westpac's independent Model Risk team, helping ensure AI models across the Group are robust, well governed and fit for purpose.

It’s an exciting time to join the team. With investment secured to grow the Enterprise Models function and increasing focus on AI and machine learning across the Group, you'll have the opportunity to work on some of the bank's most strategic and evolving model risk challenges.

Working across machine learning, generative AI and agentic models, you'll conduct independent model validations, partner with business and risk teams, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of model risk management practices. You'll bring technical expertise, strong stakeholder skills and a curiosity for emerging technologies while helping shape how AI is used responsibly across the bank.

This is a permanent full time opportunity based in Sydney / Warrane, Gadigal Country with hybrid working arrangements available.
