Job summary

Westpac Group is seeking a Senior Quantitative Analyst in Sydney to join the Model Risk function. You will validate AI models from ML to generative AI, ensuring they are robust, align with governance, and meet regulatory expectations; this is a permanent full-time role with hybrid work.

You will partner with risk and business stakeholders, review methodologies, challenge assumptions, and contribute to ongoing risk management.

Qualifications

• Experience with mathematical, statistical, ML, or AI models.
• Strong programming in Python, R, SQL, SAS, or similar.
• Ability to communicate complex concepts via reports and presentations.
• Strong critical thinking and challenge assumptions.

It's an exciting time to join the team. With investment secured to grow the Enterprise Models function and increasing focus on AI and machine learning across the Group, you'll have the opportunity to work on some of the bank's most strategic and evolving model risk challenges.

As a Senior Quantitative Analyst within Model Risk, you'll join an independent team responsible for validating AI models used across the Westpac Group. From machine learning and generative AI through to emerging agentic AI solutions, you'll play a key role in ensuring these models are robust, reliable, and aligned with governance and regulatory expectations.

You'll partner with stakeholders across the business and risk functions, challenge model design and implementation, and contribute to the ongoing evolution of AI model risk management. It's a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of advanced analytics, risk, and innovation while helping build confidence in the future of AI.

This is a permanent full time position based in Sydney / Warrane on Gadigal Country with hybrid working arrangements.

What do I need?

• Experience developing, reviewing, or working with mathematical, statistical, machine learning, or AI models
• Strong programming capability in Python, R, SQL, SAS, or similar analytical tools
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly through reports, presentations, and stakeholder discussions
• Strong critical thinking skills and confidence in constructively challenging assumptions and methodologies
• Experience working collaboratively with a range of stakeholders while managing work independently
