Job summary

MacDonnell Regional Council is seeking a skilled Management Accountant & Grants to join the Finance team in Alice Springs. The role focuses on accurate financial reporting, grant management and informing decision-making across the Council.

You will work with managers, auditors, funding bodies and the ELT to ensure obligations are met, provide practical advice, and help keep finances and grants on track. Experience with Technology One is beneficial.

Qualifications

• Tertiary accounting/finance qualification.
• Significant finance experience, including grants or contracts.
• Strong Excel and financial systems capability.
• Ability to interpret and apply compliance requirements.
• Collaborative approach across a diverse organisation.

Responsibilities

• Preparing budgets, monthly financial reports, reconciliations and year-end reporting.
• Managing grant funding codes, reporting, acquittals and audit preparation.
• Providing practical financial advice to managers and the Executive Leadership Team.
• Maintaining Council's Chart of Accounts, contract records and Technology One financial system.

MacDonnell Regional Council delivers essential services across some of Australia's most unique and culturally rich communities. Behind that work sits a strong Finance team, and we're looking for an experienced finance professional to join us as our Management Accountant & Grants.

This is a varied, hands-on role supporting accurate financial reporting, responsible grant management and informed decision-making across Council. You'll work closely with managers, auditors, funding bodies and the Executive Leadership Team, providing practical advice and ensuring our financial obligations remain on track.

The role

As Management Accountant & Grants, you'll help keep Council's finances, grants and reporting obligations accurate, compliant and on track. Working across the organisation, you'll provide reliable financial information and practical advice to support sound decision-making.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Preparing budgets, monthly financial reports, reconciliations and year-end reporting
• Managing grant funding codes, reporting, acquittals and audit preparation
• Providing practical financial advice to managers and the Executive Leadership Team
• Maintaining Council's Chart of Accounts, contract records and Technology One financial system

What you’ll bring

You’ll be a capable, detail-focused finance professional who can make sense of complex information and explain it clearly to others.

You’ll need:

• Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline
• Significant relevant finance experience, including grants or contracts
• Strong Excel and financial systems capability
• The ability to interpret and apply compliance requirements
• A collaborative approach and confidence working across a diverse organisation

Experience with Technology One would be beneficial but is not essential.

Your work will directly support Council services and outcomes across the MacDonnell region. You’ll also receive:
