About the Job

The Maintenance Trade Technician plays an important role in keeping SA Water’s infrastructure operating safely and efficiently by delivering high-quality maintenance and repair services. The role involves planned and reactive maintenance, capital works, and improvement projects, using strong trade-based skills to diagnose issues and implement effective technical solutions.

Based at the scenic South Para Reservoir, we are seeking a skilled Maintenance Fabrication Technician to join a team of experienced fabricators and mechanical fitters. This is a varied role that includes both workshop-based work and travel to sites across the metropolitan area, as well as locations such as Swan Reach through to Cape Jervis, to carry out maintenance, repairs, modifications, and installations on new and existing infrastructure.

About Operations and Maintenance

The Operations & Maintenance team oversees the management of our water, wastewater and River Murray activities and conducts operational control activities for a secure water supply. The team is responsible for both planned and unplanned maintenance activities, integrating corrective, preventive, predictive, and precision maintenance strategies. They aim to meet availability, performance, cost, and risk targets by leveraging technical asset maintenance and reliability expertise. Operations & Maintenance strives to deliver smart and reliable services to customers while enhancing overall operational efficiency.

About the Person

The ideal candidate is a skilled and safety-conscious tradesperson with strong technical expertise in maintenance and repairs. They are proactive, reliable and take pride in delivering high-quality work. With experience in both planned and reactive maintenance, they can diagnose issues quickly, work efficiently within set timeframes and communicate clearly. They’re a strong team player and have a commitment to continuous improvement.

You will have experience fabricating a variety of materials including aluminium and stainless steel. Experience with welding MSCL and stainless steel pipework is highly desirable. Strong communication skills coupled with the ability roll your sleeves up and deliver outcomes for our customers.

Your responsibilities for this opportunity

• Execute internal and external maintenance programs in line with planning and scheduling to optimise equipment uptime, improve efficiency, avoid rework, and to enhance reliability and availability of infrastructure.
• Execute internal and external capital works programs for new & upgraded infrastructure across both the metro & regional operation areas.
• Liaise across maintenance workshops and supervisors to provide updates on schedules, cost estimates, and any scope variations in accordance with the regional capital delivery framework.
• Display work management discipline, to capture and report all required maintenance data accurately and promptly in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
• Provide coaching and mentoring for trade-related apprentices.
• Ensure infrastructure is safely maintained to a high-quality standard in accordance with Australian Standards (AS3992/AS4041) and maintenance practices.
• Participation in an on-call roster will be part of this position.
• Working in remote or isolated locations may be required.

Your success in this role will come from:

• Relevant Trade Certificate or Tertiary Qualifications, demonstrating your technical expertise (essential).
• Qualification to AS1796 certificates 1-10 (Highly Desirable)
• Current Australian driver's license (essential).
• Ability to work under limited supervision and in a team environment.
• Display a proactive approach to workplace safety and model excellent safety behaviours
• Ensure all work is completed in line with legislative requirements and SA Water policies and standards.
• Willingness to learn and adapt, embracing new skills and undertaking further training as required.
• Competency with computer software and applications.
