Job summary

Origin Energy is seeking an Electrical and Instrumentation Technician to provide technical maintenance across our power generation site. You will perform inspections, fault finding, testing and outage support in collaboration with Operations, Engineering and contractors.

Ideal candidates will have an Electrical Trade Qualification, with experience in heavy industry, and a strong focus on safety, documentation and continuous improvement within a team environment.

Qualifications

  • Electrical trade qualification and unrestricted electrical licence required.
  • HV switching experience desirable.
  • Experience in power generation or heavy industry.
  • Strong fault-finding and testing on electrical plant.
  • Knowledge of safety and permit-to-work processes.
  • Ability to work across multiple teams with clear communication.

  • Investigate faults and diagnose equipment issues.
  • Support outages, testing programs and maintenance projects.
  • Prepare work packs, risk assessments and switching instructions.

About the role:

As an Electrical and Instrumentation Technician, you'll provide technical maintenance support across the power station, ensuring electrical plant and equipment operates safely, reliably and efficiently. Working closely with Operations, Engineering and contractors, you'll perform inspections, fault finding, testing, maintenance and outage support while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the site.

  • Execute routine and corrective electrical & instrumentation maintenance activities on plant and equipment.
  • Investigate faults, diagnose equipment issues and implement effective repair solutions.
  • Support major and minor plant outages, testing programs and maintenance projects.
  • Prepare work packs, risk assessments, switching instructions and maintenance documentation.
  • Identify and drive opportunities to improve plant reliability, performance and safety.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues using CMMS and diagnostic tools.
  • Respond to call-outs and support extended hours during outages, including potential night shifts.
What will you bring?
  • Electrical Trade Qualification with an unrestricted Electrical Licence.
  • HV switching, Beamex, and Cert III Instrumentation (desirable).
  • Experience in power generation, heavy industry, mining, manufacturing or a similar industrial environment.
  • Strong fault-finding, maintenance and testing experience on electrical plant and equipment.
  • Sound knowledge of safety systems, Permit to Work processes and electrical isolation requirements.
  • Strong communication, computer literacy and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple teams.
