Job summary

Southern Cross Care NSW & ACT is seeking a proactive Maintenance Officer for our Young facility. This full-time role (76 hours per fortnight) covers hands-on upkeep to ensure safe, efficient operations and high-quality living environments for residents.

You will manage electrical, plumbing, carpentry tasks and garden work, conduct preventative maintenance, and respond to issues promptly. This role supports a not-for-profit provider committed to staff development and excellent care.

Qualifications

• Experience as maintenance professional in aged care or retirement living preferred.
• Hands-on role requiring practical electrical, plumbing and carpentry skills.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and maintain safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Carry out general maintenance and repairs (electrical, plumbing, carpentry).
• Maintain outdoor spaces and gardens, grounds upkeep.
• Complete planned preventative maintenance per site schedules.
• Respond to reactive maintenance requests in designated areas.
• Monitor works for regulatory compliance.
• Contribute to Work Health & Safety practices.

What are your key responsibilities?

• Carrying out general maintenance and repairs (basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry and building work)
• Keeping our outdoor spaces looking their best with gardening and grounds maintenance - mowing, hedging, sweeping, hosing and general upkeep
• Completing planned preventative maintenance in line with site schedules
• Responding to reactive maintenance requests across your designated areas
• Monitoring maintenance works to ensure regulatory compliance
• Actively contributing to Work Health & Safety practices

Requirements

• Current driver's licence
• Trade qualification
• Computer skills
• Ability to work under minimum supervisional
• Experience as a Maintenance Person in Retirement Living (preferred)
• Previousexperiencein either building, fitter and turner, welderor plumber (desirable)
