Job summary

Toowoomba Poultry is seeking a Maintenance Fitter to support our production teams in a fast-paced food manufacturing plant in Toowoomba. You will perform preventative and reactive maintenance, ensuring WHS and HACCP procedures are followed and repairs are completed to minimise downtime.

Reporting to the Maintenance Coordinator, you will help maintain processing and packing equipment, log all work, and contribute to continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Trade qualification as Mechanical/Maintenance Fitter.
• Ability to read and interpret schematic diagrams.
• Effective communication with cross-functional teams.
• Willingness to work in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
• Willingness to work weekends/overtime as needed.

Responsibilities

• Perform planned preventative maintenance and reactive breakdowns.
• Complete maintenance tasks to meet production needs.
• Log detailed work orders and activities in the MEX system.
• Identify equipment deficiencies affecting product quality.
• Ensure HACCP, GMP and Safe Food Qld standards are followed.
• Maintain and repair processing and packing equipment.

Job description

Toowoomba Poultry is a well-established and successful family-owned poultry processing company, proudly serving the industry since 1973. Our plant is located in Toowoomba, where we take pride in delivering high-quality poultry products to our valued customers.

This position reports to the Maintenance Coordinator and is responsible for providing timely mechanical support to our production teams and performing general mechanical maintenance tasks throughout the facility.

· Fulltime position 5 days per week (8:00am - 4:06pm)

· Overtime/weekends may be occasionally required.

About the Role:

As a Maintenance Fitter at Toowoomba Poultry, you will play a crucial role in our fast-paced food manufacturing environment. You will be responsible for undertaking planned preventative and reactive breakdown maintenance, whilst ensuring established WHS and HACCP procedures are continually followed.

Duties will include:

With a Safety and Quality orientated culture and focus, you will:

Proactively identify preventative maintenance issues across the site

Be responsible for completion of planned maintenance tasks to ensure breakdowns are prioritised to meet production needs

Provide detailed accounts of all work performed and logged into (Mex)

Investigate plant or equipment deficiencies that lead to out-of-spec finished goods

Assist with ensuring HACCP & Safe Food Qld, and other customer standards are met

Maintaining processing and packing equipment

Preventative maintenance of plant and equipment, including maintenance activities outside of normal rostered hours.

Identifying equipment reliability improvement opportunities

The ideal applicant should possess:

Mechanical/Maintenance Fitter Trade or equivalent

Ability to work effectively as part of a team to achieve common goals

A proactive and enthusiastic attitude coupled with a great work ethic

Repair, change and improve machinery while ensuring principles of HACCP & GMP are not compromised

Ability to read and understand schematic diagrams and interpret machinery manuals

Effective communication skills in speaking with cross functional teams and writing work order reports.

Knowledge of basic electrical systems and components is an advantage.

TIG and MIG welding, turning, sheet metal fabrication qualifications and skills are highly regarded

Self-motivation and the ability to work autonomously and in a team

Good communication skills and a positive attitude towards the job

Familiarity with a planned maintenance approach (MEX)

Ability to work shifts during weekends if required to meet production needs.
