Job summary

Steel Mains in Somerton, VIC is seeking a Maintenance Engineer to join the team on a full-time basis. Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Lead, the role will support day-to-day production and drive process improvements at the Somerton Production Facility.

The successful candidate should be hands-on, results oriented, highly organized, motivated, and agile, able to work well independently or in a team. A positive can-do attitude and willingness to learn are essential.

Qualifications

• Degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Mechatronics/Electrical) required.
• Demonstrated experience working effectively with multiple stakeholders.
• Experience with CMMS systems (MEX or similar) desirable.

Responsibilities

• Ensure the highest practicable level of plant availability for production.
• Coordinate the preventative maintenance programs for all plant and equipment.
• Assist in the implementation of safety action plan.
• Identify issues and make recommendations for improvements in plant operations.
• Coordinate and schedule contractors.
• Respond to breakdowns and fault finding.
• Prepare ad hoc reports as required.

Steel Mains is Australia’s leading manufacturer and supplier of complete steel pipeline systems for the transportation of water and wastewater, offering a total solutions approach to its customers.

Our Plant in Somerton, VIC is currently looking for a Maintenance Engineer to join the team on a full-time basis. Reporting to the Mechanical Engineering Lead, this role will join the Somerton maintenance team and will be responsible for day-to-day production support and process improvement projects and plant upgrades. The successful candidate will work closely with the production team to ensure smooth operation of the Somerton Production Facility.

The successful candidate needs to be hands-on, results orientated, highly organised, motivated, innovative and agile. Ideally this role will suit someone who can work well independently as well as in a team. The successful applicant should have a positive can-do attitude and a willingness to learn.

Key responsibilities include:

• Ensure the highest practicable level of plant availability for production
• Implement project works minimising and/or avoiding plant downtime
• Coordinate the preventative maintenance programs for all plant and equipment
• Assist in the implementation of safety action plan
• Identify, analyse and introduce improvement to the plant
• Ensure adherence to work procedures and systems in accordance with all relevant Australian Standards
• Coordinate and schedule contractors
• Respond to breakdowns and fault finding
• Identify issues and make recommendations for improvements in plant operations
• Personnel management responsibilities for maintenance team
• Prepare ad hoc reports as required

The successful candidate should have:

• Degree in Engineering (Mechanical/Mechatronics/Electrical stream)
• Demonstrated experience working effectively with multiple stakeholders
• Strong problem-solving mind geared towards fault finding and root-cause analysis
• Demonstrated experience in a manufacturing environment/similar role is advantageous
• Experience using Microsoft Office (word, excel) is required, MEX (or other CMMS) experience desirable but not essential
