The Opportunity

As an Electrical & Controls System Engineer, you will play a crucial role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of electrical control systems that drive the efficiency and reliability of our manufacturing processes.

What you’ll do

  • Act as the primary escalation point for electrical and control system faults when issues cannot be resolved by on-site electricians.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and under pressure in a fast-paced, 24/7 operational environment.
  • Ensure all electrical and control work complies with site safety standards, Australian regulations and industry best practice.
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair of PLCs, SCADA systems, and VSDs.
  • Lead and support control system upgrades, modifications, and new technology implementation to improve plant efficiency and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design electrical control systems for various manufacturing processes, ensuring they meet industry standards and safety regulations.
  • Review and analyse existing control and electrical installations in line with Australian standards.
  • Design and develop control panels, including selecting appropriate components, wiring, and programming PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and SCADA for new and existing equipment.
  • Develop and maintain PLC programs to control manufacturing equipment, ensuring seamless operation and adherence to production specifications.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of electrical control systems, including schematics, manuals, and standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct tests and inspections to verify the functionality and safety of electrical control systems, making necessary adjustments as required.
  • Collaborate with maintenance teams and external contractors to facilitate repairs, upgrades, and installations of electrical systems.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost-saving measures related to electrical control systems.

What you’ll bring

  • Tertiary qualifications (Bachelor’s Degree) in Electrical Engineering approved by Engineers Australia.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar role in an industrial/manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of PLC, SCADA and VSD systems, with proven project and fault-finding experience.
  • Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Schneider), SCADA (Plant SCADA, Citect), VFD (e.g SEW, Powerflex,..) and HMI (Human-Machine Interface) design.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical codes, safety standards, and regulations.
  • Proven experience providing on-call support for complex electrical and control system issues preferably in 24/7 operational environments.
  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills by using PLC, SCADA, Electrical drawings combined with effective communication skills to accurately identify and resolve root causes of technical issues.
