About Qantas

Founded in the Queensland outback in 1920, Qantas has grown to be Australia’s largest regional, domestic, and international airline. Qantas has a range of subsidiary businesses that support the overall operations of the Group. The Qantas Group’s main business is the transportation of customers and freight using two complementary airline brands — Qantas and Jetstar — operating regional, domestic, and international services.

Job Description

As a Maintenance Controller, you will be responsible for the safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance of simulator assets across the port. You will implement and maintain maintenance policies and procedures while ensuring all activities meet CASA requirements and manufacturer standards. You will coordinate and lead corrective and preventative maintenance activities, including fault rectification, overhaul, repair, and system modifications. The role requires hands‑on technical input across electronic, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and software systems.

  • Play a critical role in aviation safety, ensuring world‑class simulator reliability and CASA compliance
  • Lead complex, high‑value assets in a technically advanced flight training environment
  • Make real operational impact, supporting safe and effective pilot and crew training outcomes

A key part of the role is providing expert technical guidance to resolve longer‑term reliability issues and support multiple simulation and aircraft systems. You will oversee maintenance activity across the port to minimise downtime, protect asset reliability, and support safe, effective training operations.

To Be Successful, You’ll Have
  • An Advanced Diploma of Electrical Engineering (or equivalent qualification)
  • Strong aircraft systems knowledge from both Flight Crew and Aircraft Maintenance Engineer perspectives, including maintenance of Emergency Procedures (EP) equipment and door trainers across multiple aircraft types (A220, A321, A330, A350, A380, B737, and extended door trainers for A330, B737, and B787).
  • Experience in technical purchasing and provision of maintenance services to support operational outcomes
  • Demonstrated ability to read, interpret, and understand technical schematics for effective troubleshooting.
  • Solid understanding of planning, purchasing, and inventory control principles
  • Proven ability to delegate effectively, prioritise work, and manage maintenance activities
  • Experience building and maintaining effective relationships with commercial partners and suppliers
  • Ability to think holistically and link technical decisions to financial and operational outcomes
  • Demonstrated success integrating maintenance, operational, safety, and cost considerations to improve efficiency
  • Ability to perform under time and volume pressure while delivering reliable operational outcomes
  • Clear and confident communicator with strong stakeholder management skills, including facilitating monthly status meetings with key stakeholders.
  • High attention to detail with a hands‑on, operational mindset
