Job summary

GE Vernova Onshore Wind Services seeks an MCU Technician (Mechanical) to join the team across Australia. You will perform on-site MCU/UTR work, lead safe operations, conduct inspections, and ensure documentation and EHS compliance.

Travel across Australia is required, with potential weekends and night shifts as directed. You will use mechanical, electrical and hydraulic fault-finding skills, maintain inventory readiness, and liaise with Engineering and Project teams to resolve issues.

Qualifications

• Trade qualified Mechanical tradesperson with electrical aptitude.
• Experience in wind farm operations, maintenance, installation and heavy lift components.
• Intermediate computer skills and ability to use standard tooling.
• Willingness to travel nationally or internationally on a 3 weeks on/1 week off roster.
• Positive attitude with ability to perform physically demanding tasks at heights.
• Strong organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
• GWO/GWO ART qualified and relevant tickets.

Responsibilities

• Check and validate Inventory Tooling and parts for MCU operations.
• Interpret GE manuals and complete work per GE instructions.
• Complete documentation and data collection for reports.
• Ensure compliance with EHS policies and procedures.
• Report incidents and issues via GE systems.
• Coordinate with Engineering to resolve technical questions.
• Contribute to rostered weekend/night work as required.
• Perform high voltage switching per site procedures.

Job description

The Main Component Upgrade (MCU) Technician (Mechanical) will work within the existing team in the safe execution of Main Component Upgrade and Uptower Repair work on Wind Turbines across Australia on GE Vernova Onshore Wind Services, as directed by the MCU Lead.

Responsibilities

• Work within small hands-on work groups during on site execution of MCU/UTR work
• Execute MCU work as directed by the MCU Lead, involving major crane operations using GE MCU teams, local GE employees, third party contractors, and crane vendors
• Inspect all major parts to ensure no damage and that they are the right type or configuration for the turbine
• Check and validate Inventory Tooling, Parts, any other items required during MCU operations
• Interpret the requirements of GE manuals, specifications, bulletins, and complete assigned tasks in accordance with GE work instructions
• Complete all the necessary documentation with respect to MCU / UTR execution
• Ensure data is collected to complete reports on executed MCU/UTR work.
• Ensure all work is performed in accordance with the organization’s JSA, LOTO, EHS and associated policies/procedures
• Report errors, violations, incidents, or problems immediately using GE reporting systems
• Submit enquiries to Engineering to ensure technical issues are resolved, and answer questions from Management, Engineering, Sourcing and Project Teams as required
• Make a conformance or non-conformance decision upon completion of inspections and report as required to MCU lead/FPM/CMS.
• Form part of a roster to work weekends and nights if required or as directed by management
• Perform high voltage switching operations according to site procedures as required
• Be familiar with and follow all EHS policies, and procedures applicable to their job and report any injuries, spills, near misses or related incidents and any concerns about possible violations of this policy
• Cooperate with GE investigations and EHS audits, and call attention to fellow employees of unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions and practices to their Manager, Supervisor, and EHS Manager/Coordinator
• Complete all required EHS Training

Requirements

• Trade qualified Mechanical tradespersons, with electrical aptitude.
• Proficient in fault finding electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic equipment.
• Experience in overall wind farm operations and maintenance, installation, and heavy lift main component exchange.
• Trained to an intermediate level in computer skills.
• Must hold the appropriate eligibility, at date of application, to work in Australia (i.e. Permanent Resident of Australia or an Australian Citizen or New Zealand Citizen)
• Ability and willingness to travel nationally or internationally for work and training, as a part of a 3 week on, 1 week off roster.
• Must have positive attitude and the ability to complete physically demanding tasks at heights.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task in an environment of changing priorities
• Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to implement innovative solutions
• Experience in the wind farm industry would be highly desirable
• Strong oral and written communication skills
