Job summary

APR Engineering in Australia is seeking an experienced Machinist / Fitter to join our Oxley workshop. This full‑time role covers machining, fitting and repair work across mining, transport, defence, manufacturing and energy sectors. Set up and operate conventional and CNC tools, read drawings, measure to tolerance and assemble components.

Work with the workshop team to deliver high‑quality work on time. Hours are Monday to Thursday 6:00 am–3:30 pm, with Friday an early finish.

Qualifications

  • Trade qualification or equivalent in fitting/machining.
  • Experience with CNC and conventional machining.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Experience with precision measuring equipment and quality inspection.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate conventional and CNC machine tools.
  • Perform precision machining, fitting, assembly and repair work.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Measure and inspect components to ensure tolerances and quality.
  • Assemble, fit and repair mechanical components and equipment.
  • Use precision measuring instruments safely and effectively.
  • Work with the workshop team to deliver jobs on time to a high standard.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised work environment per WHS requirements.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Machinist / Fitter to join our team at our Oxley workshop.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled tradesperson who enjoys a variety of machining, fitting and repair work. You will work on precision components and assemblies across a diverse range of industries, including mining, transport, defence, manufacturing and energy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate conventional and CNC machine tools.
  • Perform precision machining, fitting, assembly and repair work.
  • Interpret engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Measure and inspect components to ensure they meet required tolerances and quality standards.
  • Assemble, fit and repair mechanical components and equipment.
  • Use precision measuring instruments, hand tools and workshop equipment safely and effectively.
  • Work closely with the workshop team to deliver jobs on time and to a high standard.
  • Maintain a clean, safe and organised work environment in accordance with WHS requirements.

This is a full-time position, working:

  • Monday to Thursday: 6:00 am – 3:30 pm
  • Friday: Early finish
About You

You will ideally have:

  • Trade qualification as a Fitter & Turner, Machinist, Mechanical Fitter or equivalent.
  • Experience operating conventional and/or CNC machining equipment.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
  • Experience with precision measuring equipment and quality inspection.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A positive attitude and commitment to producing quality workmanship.
