Job summary

Weir in Artarmon (NSW) seeks a skilled Machinist to operate CNC and manual equipment, producing precision components and performing inspections to keep safety and quality at the forefront.

You will read technical drawings, follow procedures, and contribute to TPM and 6S initiatives while recording dimensional data for traceability in a busy machine shop.

Qualifications

• Trade qualified Machinist with 2+ years' experience operating both manual and CNC machining equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, operating procedures, risk assessments, and engineering documentation.
• Strong attention to detail with accurate measuring, inspection, and quality control capabilities.
• Commitment to workplace safety, quality standards and best practices in manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Work safely at all times, identifying and reporting any safety, quality or compliance concerns promptly.
• Operate manual and CNC machinery accurately, inspect completed work, and record dimensional data to required standards.
• Complete daily pre-start inspections, machine TPM checks, and thorough shift handovers to maintain safe and efficient operations.
• Maintain product quality by managing non-conforming materials, raising reports where required, and ensuring technical issues are addressed professionally.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining clean, organised work areas in line with 6S principles.
• Demonstrate 100% commitment to zero harm in support of a world-class safety culture.

Make your impact

As a Machinist, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality machining outcomes through the safe and efficient operation of a range of CNC and manual equipment, including vertical borers, horizontal machining centres and radial drills. You will be responsible for producing precision components to specification, conducting inspections and quality checks on completed work, and maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality and productivity within the machine shop.

What you'll bring

• Strong attention to detail with accurate measuring, inspection, and quality control capabilities.
• Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety, quality standards, and best practices within a manufacturing environment.
• Exposure to Lean 6S, TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), and continuous improvement initiatives is highly regarded.
• Effective communication and computer skills, including shift handovers and recording dimensional data within databases.
