We are looking for 1 more specialist teacher to join our small primary school for one day a week each in 2027:

  • LOTE Chinese (0.2) — Thursday
About us

Hoa Nghiem Buddhist College is a co-educational, independent Buddhist primary school founded in 2016. Our motto is Clear Mind

  • Kind Heart
  • Global Responsibility, and our learning journey is Learning to

Be, Engaging with life, Growing in wisdom. Each day begins with the bell and a few quiet breaths; children learn to name their inner weather, to breathe out before they act, and to begin anew when something goes wrong. Teachers practise alongside them. Classes are small, families are closely involved, and the school sits beside Chùa Hoa Nghiêm, whose festivals the whole community shares.

What we offer
  • A calm, kind and purposeful place to teach, grounded in mindfulness and a restorative approach to behaviour
  • Small classes and a collaborative, supportive staff team
  • Professional learning in mindfulness, Buddhist perspectives and nature-based pedagogy, and a mentor for every new teacher
  • A laptop, phone and iPad for your work, and a Staff Handbook that tells you clearly what to expect and what we expect of you
About you

You are a reflective and compassionate educator who is qualified to teach in Victorian primary schools and holds current VIT registration. You bring:

  • Strong skills in your specialist area, and the confidence to teach it from Prep to Year 6
  • A collaborative spirit and a desire to work in a close-knit team
  • Respect for cultural diversity and for Buddhist perspectives (you do not need to be Buddhist)
  • High expectations for students of every background and ability, and a genuine commitment to their wellbeing
  • Curiosity about nature-inspired pedagogies such as biomimicry and ecological education, and openness to innovative teaching
  • The ability to build warm, professional relationships with students, families and colleagues
  • A firm commitment to child safety

Hoa Nghiem Buddhist College is a child safe employer committed to the welfare and protection of children. All staff and volunteers must comply with the College's Child Safe Policy and Child Safe Code of Conduct, and appointment is subject to a National Police Check, Working with Children Check or VIT registration, and reference checks.
