Role Summary

Ready to lead IT operations in a fast-paced aviation environment? CHC is looking for a Local IT Manager for a permanent full-time position based in Perth, Western Australia.

The Local IT Manager will serve as the primary onsite technology leader for our Perth-based helicopter operations, providing comprehensive IT support and infrastructure management for our Australian region. This customer-facing role requires a self-directed professional who can operate independently while managing local network and server infrastructure, coordinating project implementations, and providing hands-on support to our aviation teams. The successful candidate will act as the critical liaison between local business operations and global IT leadership, ensuring our Perth facility and remote base locations receive exceptional technology services that support safe and efficient helicopter operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Onsite User Support Management: Lead and coordinate all onsite IT support requests, troubleshooting desktop, mobile, and aviation-specific technology issues to minimize operational downtime.
  • Local Infrastructure Management: Maintain and optimize local network infrastructure, servers, storage systems, and telecommunications equipment to ensure reliable connectivity for helicopter operations.
  • Project Implementation: Execute local technology projects including hardware deployments, software rollouts, network upgrades, and integration with global IT systems.
  • Remote Site Support: Travel to remote helicopter base locations throughout Australia to provide onsite support, conduct site assessments, and implement technology solutions.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Conduct weekly meetings with key local business stakeholders to understand operational requirements, gather feedback, and communicate technology initiatives and capabilities.
  • Business Requirements Translation: Analyze local business needs and effectively communicate requirements to global IT leadership team, ensuring alignment between local operations and enterprise technology strategy.
  • ITIL Implementation: Apply ITIL best practices for incident management, change management, and service delivery to ensure consistent, high-quality IT services.
  • Vendor Coordination: Manage relationships with local IT vendors, service providers, and contractors to ensure timely resolution of technical issues and project delivery.
  • Asset Management: Maintain accurate inventory of IT assets, coordinate procurement of hardware and software, and manage lifecycle replacement schedules.
  • Security & Compliance: Ensure local IT systems comply with corporate security policies, Australian regulations, and aviation industry standards.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain comprehensive documentation of local IT infrastructure, procedures, and provide regular reporting to global IT management.
  • Training & Support: Provide technology training to local staff, create user guides, and ensure knowledge transfer for new applications and systems.
  • Emergency Response: Serve as primary IT contact for after-hours emergencies and coordinate rapid response to critical system failures that could impact flight operations.

Qualifications, Skills & Attributes

Required Experience

  • 5+ years of IT management experience with proven track record in customer-facing roles and onsite support delivery.
  • Strong background in ITIL framework implementation and IT service management best practices.
  • Experience managing local network infrastructure, server environments, and end-user support in distributed locations.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing multiple priorities.
  • Experience with project implementation and coordination in enterprise environments.

Technical Expertise

  • Infrastructure Management: Proficiency with Windows Server environments, Active Directory, networking equipment (Cisco, HP, Dell), and virtualization technologies.
  • Network Administration: Strong skills in LAN/WAN management, VPN configuration, firewall administration, and network troubleshooting.
  • Desktop Support: Expert knowledge of Windows 10/11, Office 365, mobile device management, and enterprise applications.
  • ITIL Framework: Certified in ITIL Foundation with practical experience implementing incident, change, and problem management processes.
  • Project Management: Experience with project coordination, resource planning, and stakeholder management.
  • Monitoring Tools: Familiarity with network monitoring, system monitoring, and IT service management platforms.

Industry Knowledge

  • Understanding of aviation operations, helicopter maintenance systems, and safety-critical IT environments preferred.
  • Knowledge of Australian IT regulations, privacy laws, and telecommunications standards.
  • Experience with remote site connectivity challenges and solutions in regional/rural environments.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing or transportation industry IT requirements.

Required Certifications

  • Microsoft certifications (MCSA/MCSE or equivalent) preferred.
  • Network certifications (CCNA or equivalent) preferred.
  • Valid Australian driver's license and willingness to travel to remote locations.
