Job summary

KMD Law & Advisory, a boutique law firm in Paddington, Sydney, seeks a Litigation Paralegal/Graduate Lawyer to support the Principal Solicitor across commercial litigation and disputes. This role suits a final-year law student, a graduate lawyer, or someone with litigation support experience seeking hands-on practice in a professional setting.

You will handle drafting, court filings, research, deadlines, and attend hearings and conferences with the Principal while developing client relationships

Qualifications

• Law student in final year or penultimate year, or graduate lawyer
• Experience in litigation support preferred
• Strong written and verbal communication
• Proficiency with court deadlines and document management
• Ability to work closely with Principal Solicitor

Responsibilities

• Drafting legal documents such as pleadings, affidavits, motions and correspondence
• Preparation of court books, exhibits and briefs to counsel
• Briefing and working with counsel
• Attendance with the Principal at court hearings, mediations and strategic conferences
• Managing key deadlines including court orders and directions and maintaining accurate file management within the firm's practice management software
• Conducting legal research and analysis
• Contributing to business development and client relationships
• Collaborating with the Principal and support staff to deliver quality outcomes
• Managing the billing life cycle, entering time and disbursements and finalising invoices

Our firm is looking for a motivated and energetic Litigation Paralegal/Graduate Lawyer to join our friendly, close-knit team, led by a supportive Principal.

You will be providing direct support to the Principal Solicitor across a broad range of commercial litigation and dispute matters. The role offers an excellent opportunity to achieve hands on experience across a varied portfolio of litigation and commercial disputes.The role is suited to a law student in their final year or penultimate year of study, a graduate lawyer or an individual with previous experience in a litigation legal support position who is looking to further develop their practical experience within a professional legal environment.

Key responsibilities

• Drafting legal documents such as pleadings, affidavits, motions and correspondence
• Preparation of court books, exhibits and briefs to counsel
• Briefing and working with counsel
• Attendance with the Principal at court hearings, mediations and strategic conferences
• Managing key deadlines including court orders and directions and maintaining accurate file management within the firm's practice management software

• Diary management for the Principal, including scheduling meetings and court attendance

Qualifications & Requirements

• Currently undertaking or recently completed a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD), or possess relevant experience in a litigation support role
• Organisational skills and management of critical deadlines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a professional phone manner
• Proficiency in LexisNexis, AustLII and Westlaw and LEAP Legal Software preferred
