Job description

Profectus is seeking Expressions of Interest from experienced Linux engineering professionals who are interested in contributing to complex, mission-critical ICT environments supporting Australia’s national security and government operations.

Our clients operate in dynamic, high-assurance environments characterised by rapid deployment requirements, operational resilience, and continuous technological evolution. Opportunities may involve working within multidisciplinary capability teams responsible for the engineering, sustainment, enhancement, and support of secure ICT platforms, including deployed and operational systems.

Potential areas of contribution may include:

• Reviewing and providing technical input into system design and integration activities
• Developing, integrating, and maintaining software and system components
• Automating build, deployment, and configuration processes
• Building, administering, and supporting Linux-based production environments
• Supporting configuration management, patching, and system hardening activities
• Developing technical documentation, SOPs, and operational instructions
• Contributing to knowledge transfer, training materials, and mentoring activities
• Providing advanced support for operational systems as required

Skills and experience of interest

• Significant experience in Linux-based engineering or software development roles
• Strong experience administering and hardening Linux operating systems
• Automation and scripting experience (e.g. Bash, Python, Ansible or similar)
• Experience developing and maintaining Linux Standard Operating Environments (SOEs)
• Strong documentation skills and ability to communicate technical concepts clearly
• Experience working within DevOps or modern delivery practices
• Ability to provide sound technical advice aligned to broader business or operational needs
• Exposure to Defence, national security, or other high-assurance environments
• Experience with deployable or operational ICT systems
• Understanding of systems engineering or capability lifecycle frameworks
• Experience working in agile delivery environments
• Familiarity with technologies such as Ansible, OpenStack, or hybrid platforms
• Exposure to Windows SOE development or cross-platform environments
