Job summary

A government contractor in Sydney is seeking an experienced Monitoring Specialist for a critical defense program. The role involves designing and maintaining monitoring solutions using the Elastic Stack across hybrid environments. Candidates must have strong experience with Linux systems and data ingestion. This is a 12-month contract with a rate of $1250 per day plus GST.

Monitoring Specialist – NV2 Clearance required – 12 months @ $1100 per day + GST

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Monitoring Specialist with strong background in the Elastic Stack to work across a critical defence program on an initial 12-month contract. This will be a Linux based role utilising both on-premise and cloud infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain monitoring solutions using the Elastic Stack (ELK + Beats) across on-prem and cloud environments.
  • Develop and manage data pipelines (e.g., Logstash, Beats, or custom agents) to collect and normalize telemetry, log, and event feeds from distributed systems.
  • Create and maintain dynamic, actionable Kibana dashboards to visualize infrastructure performance, availability, and security.
  • Onboard new data sources into the Elastic Stack, ensuring completeness, accuracy, and consistency of ingested data.
  • Integrate monitoring feeds from applications, platforms, network devices, containers, and third-party systems.
About You
  • Experience working in Defence as a on monitoring and data ingestion.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in Linux servers and virtual systems in hyper-converged infrastructure and across distributed environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with the Elastic Stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana, Beats).
  • Solid understanding of log aggregation, metrics collection, and event-driven monitoring practices.
  • Experience working in distributed system environments, including hybrid cloud or containerized platforms.
  • Familiarity with scripting (e.g., Python, Shell), Linux administration, and common monitoring protocols (e.g., syslog, SNMP, HTTP APIs).
