Job summary

Western Power is inviting applications for Lineworker Apprenticeships in Picton, Pinjarra, and Albany. The program runs for four years and delivers a Nationally recognised Certificate III in ESI – Distribution Overhead.

You will train with experienced tradespeople, gaining skills in installation, maintenance and inspection of poles and related equipment. The apprenticeship is full-time with on-the-job learning, formal assessments, and a focus on safety, productivity and career development.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Have completed minimum of Year 10 with English and Mathematics.
• Be physically fit and able to lift heavy equipment.
• Willing to complete a pre-employment medical assessment.
• Willing to work shifts including 75-hour fortnight and travel to remote locations.

Responsibilities

• Learn to obtain a National Certificate III in ESI – Distribution Overhead.
• Work alongside qualified tradespeople to install, maintain and inspect poles, structures and hardware.
• Engage in four-year structured apprenticeship with on-the-job learning and formal training.
• Participate in rotations across WA locations as required by the program.

What Does a Lineworker Apprentice Do?

As a Lineworker Apprentice, you will work towards obtaining a Nationally recognised Certificate III in ESI – Distribution Overhead (UET30621).

Alongside experienced tradespeople while developing the technical knowledge and practical skillsrequiredto become a qualified tradesperson:

Gain knowledge in areas such as installation, maintenance and inspection of poles, structures and associated hardware

Nominal term for this qualification is 48 months

What makes me a suitable candidate for Western Power apprenticeships?

Must be 18 years or older to apply for these positions

Have obtained a “C” class drivers license

Have completed minimum of Year 10 secondary education with English and Mathematics skills (depending on your apprenticeship)

Be physically fit and carry the ability to lift heavy equipment

Be willing to complete a pre-employment medical assessment

Be willing to/have obtained a range of high-risk licensing

Be willing to work shift consisting of a 75-hour fortnight (overtime may be applicable, roster days off applicable)

Be willing to work and travel in remote locations pending on your work rotations, including travelling to attend TAFE and external training courses

The ability to interpret complex instructions, designs and diagrams

The ability to operate large equipment such as elevated work platforms and hydraulic drills
