St Thomas Of Villanova Catholic Parish School catering for students from Prep to Year 6, is situated in the town of Mareeba in the Cairns Hinterland, approximately an hour’s drive west of Cairns.

About the Role

The purpose of the Library Assistant role is to focus on the operational and technical aspects of library and information services. This can involve the operation and maintenance of systems that support acquisition, organisation and day to day management of library and information services, resources and client access to information.

Typical duties performed may include, but are not limited to:

• Support the day-to-day operation of the school library, assisting students and staff to access library resources and services.
• Provide guidance and training to students and staff in the use of library technologies, digital resources and equipment.
• Process, catalogue and prepare library resources for circulation, including books, audiovisual materials and other learning resources.
• Assist with the acquisition, ordering and tracking of library resources and educational materials.
• Maintain library collections through stocktakes, record management, resource maintenance and repairs.
• Help students, staff and parents locate resources and respond to library enquiries in a professional and customer-focused manner.
• Manage the borrowing and return of library resources, including inter-library loans where required.
• Create engaging library displays, exhibits and promotional materials that support curriculum and school initiatives.
• Assist with collection development activities, including evaluating, acquiring and reviewing resources to meet user needs.
• Contribute to library programs, events and activities, including book fairs and other initiatives that promote a love of learning and reading.
