Job summary

Gallagher Bassett in Darwin is seeking a Liability and Technical Specialist to lead initial risk assessments and liability determinations for workers’ compensation claims. Based in our Darwin office, you will coach teams, conduct specialist investigations, and advise on entitlement outcomes within NT guidelines.

You will collaborate across stakeholders, provide education, and support dispute resolution while applying impairment assessment guidelines and local legislation.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in workers compensation claims management, impairment assessment guidelines and relevant case law.
• Strong working knowledge of the NT Workers Compensation legislation and guidelines.
• Highly developed communication skills, with the ability to engage and negotiate at all levels of organisation and with a varied set of stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate the claim lodgement process, ensuring key information is obtained from stakeholders to support the timely determination of a claim.
• Determine liability for a claim within the legislative timeframes and communicate decision to the injured worker and employer.
• Undertake specialist claims investigation, determine normal weekly earnings, lump sum and whole person impairment entitlements.
• Identify any potential barriers and provide effective strategies for eligibility outcomes.
• Provide education to Workers, Employer and Treating Medical Practitioner in respect to rights and responsibilities.
• Undertake the internal dispute resolution process as requested.
• Provide instructions to panel solicitors with respect to litigated matters.
• Prepare required paper work for NT WorkSafe in relation to mediation requests.
• Attend mediation and work health court conferences as required.

As the Liability and Technical Specialist, you will be responsible for conducting initial contacts and risk assessments, obtain subjective and objective evidence and determine liability for workers compensation claims. Additionally, you will act as a subject matter expert, providing coaching and advice to our claims teams around liability and other entitlement determinations.

Based in our Darwin office and within a dynamic and collaborative team, this is a unique opportunity to bring your existing technical claims expertise to an existing new specialist role within our NT Workers Compensation function.

How you'll make an impact

Provides guidance to case manager about legislation. Is a technical resource regarding government laws and changes to the laws. Provides decision-making capabilities involving entitlements for injured workers. Endorse decisions, reviews letters is a subject matter expert for technical questions. Works closely with Dispute Resolution.

About you

Required: Minimum 3-5 years case management experience.

Preferred: Cert 4 preferred.
