Job summary

The G’day Group is seeking an experienced in-house Legal Counsel to provide practical, commercially focused advice across a diverse range of matters. Reporting to the Head of Legal, you will draft, review and negotiate commercial contracts and support risk management, compliance and disputes.

You will collaborate with internal stakeholders, translate complex legal concepts, and contribute to templates and training.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Laws or equivalent legal qualification and a current Australian practising certificate.
  • 3–5 years’ post-admission experience, inhouse or professional practice.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements.
  • Strong commercial judgement balancing legal risk with business objectives.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills; able to explain complex legal matters clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Provide practical, commercially focused legal advice to managers, operational teams and internal stakeholders.
  • Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of commercial contracts, agreements and legal documents.
  • Support commercial negotiations and help the business understand key obligations, risks and opportunities.
  • Identify and assess legal and commercial risks, recommending practical solutions that support business outcomes.
  • Translate complex legal concepts into clear, straightforward advice that stakeholders can easily understand and act on.
  • Support compliance, dispute resolution, litigation and cross-business projects as required.
  • Work closely with the Head of Legal, internal stakeholders and external legal providers on a range of matters.
  • Contribute to the development of legal templates, guidance materials, training and continuous improvement initiatives.

About the Role

Reporting to the Head of Legal, this is a hands-on, in-house role where you’ll work closely with stakeholders across the organisation, providing practical, commercially focused legal advice across a diverse range of matters.

You’ll have the opportunity to get close to the business, understand how we operate and help our people make confident, commercially sound decisions. From negotiating contracts and identifying legal risks through to supporting projects, compliance and disputes, no two days will be the same.

What you’ll do

About you

We’re looking for a capable and commercially minded lawyer who enjoys partnering with the business and finding practical solutions.

You’ll ideally have:

  • A Bachelor of Laws or equivalent legal qualification and a current Australian practising certificate.
  • 3–5 years’ post-admission experience, inhouse or professional practice.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial agreements.
  • Strong commercial judgement and the ability to balance legal risk with business objectives.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to explain complex legal matters in plain English.
  • A collaborative, personable and service-focused approach to business partnering.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience supporting property, leases, acquisitions or construction matters will be highly regarded.
