Job summary

The University of Sydney’s School of Medical Sciences invites applications for a Lecturer (Level B) in Neuroscience/Medical Sciences on a half-time basis (0.5FTE) for a fixed term until October 2027. The School of Medical Sciences is recognised as one of the leading centres for Neuroscience and Medical Sciences education. Our team of researchers lead key internationally competitive research from molecules to medicines, from patient to policy across a range of therapeutic areas. The School of Medical Sciences is seeking a Lecturer (Level B) – Neuroscience/Medical Sciences to make significant contributions to teaching and learning while engaging in educational leadership. The role will contribute to the design, delivery, evaluation and continuous improvement of high-quality educational experiences that support student learning outcomes and align with University and Faculty expectations. Working collaboratively with academic colleagues, the Lecturer will contribute to curriculum development, innovative teaching practices and educational initiatives across Neuroscience and Medical Sciences. The role will also undertake scholarly activity, develop research skills and contribute to the advancement of discipline knowledge, particularly as it relates to teaching and learning practices.

Your key responsibilities

• undertake independent teaching in Neuroscience and Medical Sciences, contributing to outstanding educational design, delivery, evaluation and outcomes engage in high-quality teaching and learning experiences that meet University expectations and standards for education
• deliver quality units of study, learning activities and curriculum content that support student needs and meet curriculum requirements
• contribute research or scholarly activity as part of a team, contributing to discipline knowledge, particularly in relation to teaching and learning within the discipline
• engage in co-supervision of research students in accordance with School, Faculty and University expectations
• apply scholarship and knowledge of contemporary pedagogical practice to innovate and enhance education practices
• undertake academic administration activities that support the delivery of high-quality teaching and learning
• coordinate activities of academic staff and provide training, guidance and mentorship to less experienced academic staff
• contribute to a positive workplace culture that values diversity of thought, collaboration, excellence and achieving outcomes
• contribute to the strategic priorities of the University, Faculty and School
• engage beyond the University through conferences, seminars, outreach activities and professional networks
• undertake other duties appropriate within the classification level as required.

About you

• PhD in a relevant field demonstrated understanding of the subject matter of Neuroscience and Medical Sciences experience contributing to original research and engaging in scholarly activity
• experience in teaching and learning, including participation in team teaching and delivery across a variety of settings demonstrated success in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
• developing networks with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners and stakeholders
• experience supervising or mentoring students, and colleagues
• strong planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
• excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with students, academic colleagues and stakeholders
• commitment to innovative teaching practices, educational excellence and continuous improvement.
