We are seeking to appoint three Lecturers in Initial Teacher Education to contribute to the delivery of contemporary teacher education programs and undertake impactful research within a collaborative academic environment.

As a Lecturer in Initial Teacher Education you will be an innovative educator-researcher who contributes to the design, development and delivery of high-quality teaching and curriculum development, while conducting impactful research aligned with the University of Tasmania mission. The successful applicant will design and teach engaging online and face to face learning experiences while contributing to excellence in teacher education, research and engagement.

The successful candidate will have experience in primary or secondary teacher education with expertise in at least one of the following areas; Arts, Mathematics, Technologies or Inclusive Education, and will have a strong commitment to the crucial role of education to enable individuals and communities to flourish.

Our ambition is to positively impact the wellbeing and educational attainment of all Tasmanians and we see this role as central to this endeavour. In this role, you will engage directly with the Tasmanian Department of Education, Children and Young People, Catholic Education Tasmania, Independent Schools Tasmania as well as early years providers and community organisations to build capacity across the education system in Tasmania. The very direct engagement with these bodies that is possible in Tasmania is a strategic advantage which we anticipate will facilitate system-wide change.

What you’ll do:

  • Contribute to innovative curriculum design and learning experiences that support student success and graduate readiness
  • Coordinate and provide academic leadership to support tutorial staff where required.
  • Make an effective and sustained contribution to the School of Education and the University in achieving its strategic objectives and fulfilling its operational responsibilities.
  • Undertake high-quality research of national and increasingly of international standing, in order to meet and regularly exceed the University’s research performance expectations for Level B.
What we’re looking for:
  • A PhD in a relevant field or equivalent (for example, a Masters level qualification in a relevant field and leadership experience in the field of teaching, curriculum development or school management). Curriculum leadership experience in primary or secondary schools (e.g. Arts, Mathematics, Technologies) and/or expertise in professional knowledge (eg. inclusive education)
  • Demonstrated record of, and ongoing commitment to, research and writing that has achieved national recognition and made worthwhile contributions to the field of Education
  • Demonstrated experience in delivering and supporting high-quality University level teaching and learning in one or more of the key areas outlined
  • Experience designing or contributing to curriculum and assessment aligned with learning outcomes
  • A record of contributing to building and maintaining effective and productive links locally and nationally with the discipline, profession, industry and wider community.
