Job description

Leader Group Accounting – Corporate & Remuneration

We’re Virgin Australia. We’re the airline that’s always done things a little different. Our way. The Virgin way. We’re on a mission to make flying better than ‘nice’. And to do that, it takes a team of talented people who are passionate about customer experience, doing the right thing always, with a focus on safety – in the air, on the ground and in our workplaces. A team who values real diversity and inclusion, in a big brand with big ambitions.

What you’ll be doing

As the Leader, Group Accounting Services – Corporate & Remuneration, you’ll be responsible for delivering high-quality accounting services related to corporate, payroll, employee remuneration costs and Share Based Payments. Your work will be critical in ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and compliance of financial reporting, while maintaining a strong internal control environment. You’ll play a key role in overseeing the governance and integrity of cost recognition, including associated liabilities, provisions, and prepayments in the General Ledger. In addition, you’ll lead and support an onshore Senior Group Accountant and offshore accounting team, driving consistency, quality, and compliance with accounting standards. This is a hands‑on leadership role that blends technical expertise with operational execution. You’ll contribute directly to accurate financial outcomes, robust internal controls, and the continuous improvement of accounting processes across the group.

Requirements
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Business or Commerce, and are CA/CPA qualified (or equivalent)
  • Bring at least 5 years of post‑qualification experience in a commercial environment, ideally within a large corporate or ASX‑listed organisation with a complex structure
  • Have a proven track record in leading large teams of finance professionals, with strong people leadership and mentoring capabilities
  • Demonstrate expertise in change management and process improvement within a finance function
  • Excel at building strong, collaborative relationships and delivering high‑quality service and advice across diverse business units
  • Thrive in fast‑paced environments, with excellent self‑management, adaptability, and the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Are a confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills, a team mindset, and a proactive, analytical approach
  • Show resilience and agility in navigating change within dynamic industries
  • Possess advanced Excel skills and are a high‑end user of Oracle Financials or other ERP systems
  • Have deep knowledge of current accounting principles and guidelines, with the ability to apply them in a practical, business‑focused way
Desirable qualifications and experience
  • Master of Business or postgraduate studies in Business, Law, or Aviation
  • Fellow status with CPA or CA
  • Experience in multi‑entity or multinational organisations with complex structures
  • Exposure to aviation or similarly regulated industries
What you’ll get from us
  • Heavily discounted air travel for you and your loved ones (including $1000 worth of travel credits per year)
  • Flexible working arrangements (including work hours and work from home)
  • Discounts on travel insurance, car hire, accommodation and experiences worldwide
  • Hospitality, retail, technology, beauty services and wellness discounts
  • Wellness support, including the Converge digital wellbeing platform
  • A comprehensive Employee Assistance Program, which offers confidential coaching and support from qualified professionals for all aspects of life – physical, mental, social and financial
  • Dress for Your Day – enjoy the freedom to wear whatever is appropriate for the type of work you do and the day you have ahead of you
