Job summary

Downer is seeking an experienced Transmission Lines Engineer to lead design activities for high-profile 33kV to 500kV projects from our Sydney base. You will report to the Transmission Lines Engineering manager and collaborate with senior technical experts across the Power sector.

The role emphasizes leadership, stakeholder engagement, site visits, and delivering technically sound solutions while upholding safety and design quality.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and Chartered Engineer status.
• Minimum 5 years' experience as a Transmission Lines Engineer in the Power Sector.
• Knowledge of Australian Standards AS7000, AS4100 and AS1170 and typical TNSP design expectations.
• Ability to motivate and guide project teams for analysis, design and construction support.
• Proficiency in engineering design software PLS-CADD, PLS-POLE and PLS-Tower.
• Able to provide referees from within Australian TNSPs.

Responsibilities

• Provide design leadership across the engineering field, leading design activities and bid opportunities.
• Support the design manager with reporting, RFIs, and variations.
• Contribute to project performance reporting and develop constructible solutions.
• Ensure design deliverables pass Quality Control processes.
• Provide expert technical advice to Project Delivery and broader teams.
• Participate in Safety in Design to identify hazards and implement controls.
• Integrate community, environment and operations considerations into option selection.
• Carry out value engineering and fit-for-purpose reviews throughout planning and design.
