Job summary

Australian Agricultural Company (AACo) is seeking a Head Stockperson to lead the newly built feeder yards at Avon Downs. You will drive daily operations, supervise a small team of Station Hands, ensure safe livestock handling, and uphold best-practice animal welfare.

Bring at least 4 years in station or livestock feeding operations, a current heavy vehicle licence, and proficiency with Stockmate and Microsoft Office. A firearms licence, chemical users accreditation and first aid are desirable.

Qualifications

• A natural leader with at least 4 years’ experience in station or livestock feeding operations.
• Current Driver’s Licence (Heavy Vehicle preferred).
• Confident managing feed allocations, machinery, and team rosters.
• Skilled in cattle handling, pen riding, and low-stress stock handling.
• Committed to safety, animal welfare, and doing things the right way.
• Comfortable using systems like Stockmate and Microsoft Office.
• Firearms Licence (Class A & B).
• Chemical Users Accreditation.
• First Aid Certificate (or willing to obtain).

Responsibilities

• Lead daily feeder yard operations, livestock handling, pen riding, feeding, water supply and dispatch.
• Ensure animal welfare by monitoring pen conditions, health protocols, and hygiene/biosecurity.
• Drive safety culture, inductions, PPE use, and risk management across activities.
• Manage and develop a small team with training, clear communication and roster planning.
• Coordinate feed logistics, including movements, allocations and record-keeping.
• Oversee machinery use and maintenance for safe operation of tractors, mixers and loaders.
