Job description

Through the merger of Bank Australia and Qudos Bank we’re creating a better, stronger and more resilient bank for our customers and employees. As one company with two trusted brands, we’re building on the strong foundations of our history and shared values as we bring together the best of both banks.

As Lead Specialist, Cloud Platform, you will provide technical and operational leadership for the bank’s cloud platforms across Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS), ensuring they remain secure, reliable, scalable and cost-effective. You will drive cloud operations, platform engineering and service improvement initiatives, embedding automation, resilience, monitoring, security and FinOps practices that support the bank’s technology strategy and operational objectives.

Working closely with technology, security and business stakeholders, you will establish cloud platform standards and governance, build internal capability, and ensure cloud services are delivered in line with architectural, risk and compliance requirements.

We have big plans to become Australia’s most trusted bank and a leading purpose-driven business.

As a certified B Corp, we’re part of a global business community who meet the highest social and environmental standards, putting purpose over profit.

Every role and person in our bank is essential to bringing our values, purpose and aspiration to life.

We offer flexible working options, competitive salary and 14% super.

Our staff have access to a range of meaningful benefits to support their physical and mental wellbeing including 24/7 free counselling, free flu vaccinations and discounted gym memberships.

We also support staff with study assistance, paid parental leave (regardless of gender), volunteer, bereavement, gender affirmation and family violence leave; and the opportunity for bonus annual leave.

We support our staff to grow their careers through learning and development and an organisational culture where we reward and recognise innovation and values, not long hours.

We are committed to building an inclusive culture and a diverse workforce that reflects the Australian community.

We care for a conservation reserve - where we work with key partner organisations to protect threatened species and involve staff in conservation.

What you will be doing

Lead the Cloud Platform team, setting priorities, driving service improvements and coordinating the delivery of cloud platform capabilities across Azure and AWS.

Define and maintain cloud platform standards, governance and reusable patterns that support secure, scalable and efficient cloud adoption.

Oversee the operational health, performance, resilience and lifecycle management of cloud services, ensuring platforms remain reliable, supportable and secure.

Drive the adoption of Infrastructure as Code, automation, DevOps practices and self-service capabilities to improve consistency, efficiency and operational outcomes.

Implement and maintain cloud security, risk and compliance controls, partnering with security, risk and architecture teams to meet regulatory and governance requirements.

Lead cloud cost optimisation and FinOps activities, providing insights and recommendations to improve cost transparency, forecasting and consumption management.

Support major incidents, disaster recovery, business continuity and service management activities, ensuring operational readiness and effective risk management.

Build strong relationships with technology, security, architecture, finance and project stakeholders, providing expert advice and enabling successful cloud adoption and delivery.

What you will bring

Extensive experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure or technology operations, including technical leadership within a complex enterprise environment.

Advanced experience with Microsoft Azure and strong knowledge of AWS, including cloud governance, landing zones, security controls, monitoring and operational management.

Strong expertise in Infrastructure as Code, automation and DevOps practices, with experience using tools such as Terraform, Bicep, Azure DevOps or GitHub.

Demonstrated experience implementing cloud security, identity and access management, resilience, disaster recovery and operational risk controls.

Proven ability to lead technical teams and coordinate vendors and managed service providers to deliver reliable, secure and scalable cloud services.

Strong understanding of cloud cost management and FinOps principles, including forecasting, optimisation, allocation and performance reporting.

Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts, risks and recommendations to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance operational stability, security, delivery priorities and continuous improvement initiatives.

Relevant qualifications or certifications in cloud technologies, infrastructure or technology operations. Experience in financial services, Azure or AWS certifications, FinOps, ITIL, cloud security or hybrid cloud environments will be highly regarded.

Commitment to Bank Australia’s purpose, aspiration, values and brand as well as the B Corp ethos.
