Lead Principal Developer- Backend API & Digital Platforms

12 months with one extension

Location: QLD, ACT, VIC, NSW

We are seeking an experienced Lead Developer to provide technical leadership across the design, development and operation of enterprise digital platform services and consumer APIs.

This is a senior, hands-on technical leadership role responsible for an API platform supporting web applications, customer portals and mobile applications. You will lead backend engineering practices and work closely with architects, frontend developers, platform engineers, Salesforce teams and integration specialists to deliver secure, scalable and highly reliable digital services.

The environment includes Golang, GraphQL, AWS, Amazon EKS, Kubernetes, Cloudflare, Salesforce and MuleSoft, with a strong focus on modern engineering practices including AI-assisted software development, automated testing, CI/CD and cloud-native architecture.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development and evolution of an enterprise consumer API platform supporting web, portal and mobile applications.
• Define and maintain technical architecture, API standards and backend engineering practices.
• Design and develop backend services using Golang, GraphQL and cloud-native technologies.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to backend developers while remaining hands-on with solution delivery.
• Collaborate with Salesforce, MuleSoft, frontend, architecture and platform engineering teams to deliver integrated end-to-end solutions.
• Establish engineering standards across code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD and software delivery governance.
• Drive adoption of AI-assisted software engineering tools to improve development productivity and quality while maintaining appropriate engineering oversight.
• Support platform reliability, security, observability and operational excellence across AWS, Amazon EKS, Kubernetes and Cloudflare environments.
• Contribute to architecture reviews, technical governance and technology decision-making.
• Ensure solutions remain maintainable, secure, scalable and aligned with long-term architecture objectives

What we are looking for

• 8+ years’ software engineering experience, with strong hands-on expertise in Golang, GraphQL, enterprise APIs and backend development.
• Strong cloud-native engineering experience across AWS, EKS, Kubernetes, CI/CD, automated testing, security and observability.
• Proven technical leadership and mentoring, with exposure to Salesforce/MuleSoft integrations, Cloudflare and AI-assisted development highly regarded.

Highly Desirable

Experience in one or more of the following would be highly regarded:

• Designing and operating consumer-facing API platforms supporting web, portal and mobile channels.
• Cloudflare, including Zero Trust, Access, Tunnels and edge security.
• Integration architecture involving Salesforce and MuleSoft, or comparable enterprise platforms.
• Government, regulated or highly governed enterprise environments.
