Job summary

ABB in Melbourne seeks a Lead Systems Engineer to drive power system engineering solutions for the Energy Industries team. You will lead multi-disciplinary groups (5–25 engineers) in advanced analyses, grid code studies, and on-site commissioning, ensuring safe and compliant project delivery.

You will act as technical lead, coordinate customers and contractors, and mentor junior engineers, while shaping solutions and managing changes throughout project lifecycles.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a power system engineer with grid modelling and excitation systems.
• Strong knowledge of power systems, synchronous machines, and control theory.
• Experience with power system simulation tools and leading engineering teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate engineering teams across multiple disciplines for power system projects.
• Act as design authority, reviewing and approving engineering deliverables for safety, security, and quality compliance.
• Perform advanced power system analysis and Grid Code Compliance studies.
• Support project installation, commissioning, and site activities.
• Work with customers, contractors, and stakeholders to shape solutions and resolve technical issues.
• Develop project proposals, conduct risk analysis, and manage engineering changes.
• Coach and mentor project engineers on design development and engineering best practices.
• Ensure alignment with safety, cybersecurity regulations, and contractual obligations.
