Job summary

Northern Land Council in Darwin is seeking a Lead Compliance Operations to oversee the Permits, Agreements & Compliance Team, directing compliance monitoring, complaints, investigations and reporting related to Aboriginal land access permits and Land Use Agreements.

You will work in a complex, cross-cultural environment, guiding officers, building systems, and advising Traditional Owners and Rangers, with travel to regional areas and a strong emphasis on fairness and records.

Qualifications

  • Experience leading investigations and compliance activities in a regulatory environment.
  • Ability to build respectful relationships with Aboriginal people, Traditional Owners and diverse stakeholders.
  • Current NT Driver's licence or ability to obtain before commencement.
  • Willingness to travel regionally and to operate a manual 4WD vehicle.
  • Understanding of the Aboriginal Land Rights (NT) Act 1976 is well regarded.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the day-to-day work of the Permits, Agreements & Compliance Team.
  • Coordinate compliance monitoring, complaints, investigations and reporting for land access permits and Land Use Agreements.
  • Provide clear direction to Permit and Compliance Officers and develop systems and procedures.
  • Elevate complex or sensitive matters appropriately and collaborate with Traditional Owners, Rangers, Legal, Anthropology and GIS teams.
