Job summary

City of Ballarat is seeking a seasoned open space planning and design professional to lead the Open Space Planning and Design group within the City Design Unit. The role reports to the Executive Manager City Design and acts as advocate for open space matters.

The role requires an organised and adaptive leader with strong technical skills in landscape design and proven leadership of open space initiatives. City Design is responsible for streetscapes, public realm, open spaces and urban renewal

Qualifications

Demonstrated leadership experience related to open spaces, parks and reserves.
Ability to draw quality sketch, concept and detailed designs for parklands and open spaces using AutoCAD.
Experience preparing/reviewing landscape plans for development applications.
Proven people management skills and ability to inspire a diverse team.
Strong communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

Lead the Open Space Planning and Design group within the City Design Unit.
Advocate for open space planning and design matters with stakeholders.
Oversee landscape design projects across parks, reserves and public realm.
Guide the planning and development process for private reserves via planning/subdivision.
Manage a team of Landscape Architects and Project Managers across the full project life-cycle.
