Job summary

Advanced Navigation is seeking an experienced Lead Inertial Sensor Engineer to bridge software, electronics and mechanical engineering in sensor development. The role focuses on validating and extending inertial sensor performance across MEMS and related technologies.

The ideal candidate combines hands-on testing with deep theoretical knowledge of sensor systems and INS impact, enabling optimisation of products from low-cost to high-end platforms. Proficiency in Python or MATLAB is expected.

Qualifications

Degree in Physics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering or related field.
Advanced degree (Master's or PhD) in sensor tech or inertial navigation is advantageous.
Experience designing and executing tests for inertial sensors (accelerometers and gyroscopes).
Experience in sensor development (MEMS, FOG or emerging tech).
Deep understanding of how sensor characteristics impact INS performance.
Proficiency in data analysis tools such as Python or MATLAB.
Experience in defense, maritime, or autonomous vehicle domains is a plus.

Responsibilities

Contribute to the research and development of novel, internally-developed sensor technologies.
Provide expert guidance on the critical properties of sensors for inertial navigation systems.
Develop and implement advanced sensor calibration techniques to optimise system performance.
Lead the testing, characterisation, and selection of third-party inertial sensors.
Analyse test data to identify sensor performance limitations and areas for improvement.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sensors into our diverse product range, from low-cost to high-end systems.
