Job summary

Canonical's Device Delivery Team in Canberra seeks a Software Engineering Manager to lead and grow the software engineering group delivering OEM enablement projects for Ubuntu Desktop and Ubuntu Core. You will recruit and mentor engineers, set goals, coordinate with project managers and QA, and address challenges with OEMs/ODMs.

Will travel globally, contributing to fast-paced, high-quality deliveries across desktop and server platforms.

Qualifications

Bachelor degree in STEM, preferably CS or software engineering.
Proven Linux development/operations background.
Experience with management responsibilities.
Ability to lead globally distributed teams and travel.
Strong English and Chinese communication.

Responsibilities

Recruit, mentor, and enable your team to succeed in delivering quality products
Set goals with the team; prioritize tasks, identify and measure team health indicators
Maximise the results of team members and support their career growth
Coordinate with project managers, HWE, QA and certification management
Monitor projects from kickoff to post-mortem and handle escalations
Communicate, understand, and resolve the technical challenge with OEMs, ODMs, SiPs, IHVs
Prioritize customer requests globally
Collaborate with product engineering teams (Desktop, Foundations, Kernel, and Security)
Provide leadership for methodologies, strategies, standards, tools, and best practices
Must be able to travel to the EU, USA, China, and Taiwan
