Job summary

Taronga Zoo Sydney is seeking an experienced Australian Fauna Unit Supervisor to lead the Herpetofauna team at Taronga’s iconic Sydney site. You will partner with the Manager to deliver high‑quality animal husbandry, guest experiences and conservation education across a seven‑day roster.

You will supervise keepers, align goals with Taronga’s strategic plan, and uphold safety, welfare and compliance standards while fostering stakeholder relationships and sustainability commitments.

Qualifications

• Extensive animal husbandry experience with Herpetofauna.
• Desirable venomous animal handling experience.
• Herpetofauna population management skills desirable.
• NSW C Class Drivers Licence (or ability to transfer current unrestricted licence).
• Pre-employment TB Screening and Pre-employment Q fever.
• Certificate III in Captive Animals or equivalent.
• Obtain and maintain a current paid NSW Working with Children Check.

Responsibilities

• Work to safely provide high quality animal husbandry and management within the Australian Fauna Precinct, Herpetofauna team.
• Implement Taronga policies and procedures to meet WHS and animal care targets.
• Directly supervise and support a diverse team of Herpetofauna Keepers.
• Set team and individual goals aligned with Taronga’s vision and plan.
• Develop engaging guest experiences aligned with Taronga’s strategy.
• Communicate Taronga's education and conservation messages internally and externally.
• Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships to advance the unit’s goals.
• Collaborate with a high performing team to achieve Taronga’s outcomes.
• Contribute to sustainability practices and reduce environmental impact.
