Job summary

Charter Diligence invites applications for a Grounds Supervisor / Leading Hand to oversee sportsground maintenance in Canberra. This hands-on role combines turf management expertise with staff supervision, coordination and quality assurance.

You will lead a field-based team maintaining sporting surfaces and facilities, ensuring safe, efficient work and adherence to standards. Onsite work at Waramanga Depot, ACT.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated turf management experience in sportsgrounds.
• Experience leading field teams in outdoor maintenance.
• Strong knowledge of irrigation and turf health practices.
• Ability to operate and maintain turf equipment safely.
• Sound WHS knowledge and hazard management.

Responsibilities

• Supervise daily grounds maintenance across Canberra facilities.
• Lead and support field staff to meet priorities and standards.
• Oversee turf care: mowing, fertilising, irrigation, line marking, renovations.
• Monitor surfaces and coordinate maintenance to keep fields safe and presentable.
• Assist with irrigation operation, scheduling and reporting.
• Provide guidance on turf management and equipment use.
• Allocate staff, machines and materials for planned work.
• Inspect work to ensure quality and compliance with procedures.
• Promote safe work practices and safety compliance.
• Identify hazards and take corrective action to reduce risks.
• Support induction and development of team members.
• Maintain daily records and operational reports.
• Operate grounds maintenance machinery per safety rules.
• Adapt to changing priorities and conditions.
• Communicate with stakeholders about maintenance activities.
