Job summary

ING Bank in Sydney is seeking a Lead Engineer Web to spearhead the end-to-end software development lifecycle and deliver scalable web solutions. You will lead design, development and production support, mentor engineers and promote Agile/CD practices across Scrum teams.

You will drive quality, security-by-design and best practices while collaborating with stakeholders to deliver customer-centric digital banking experiences in Australia.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software development experience with technical leadership of large-scale apps
• Modern web development with JavaScript, HTML, CSS, web components, and responsive design
• Strong knowledge of software delivery practices: automated testing, CI/CD, DevOps, source control, Agile

Responsibilities

• Lead the end-to-end software development lifecycle from ideation to delivery and production support
• Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable, high-performing web solutions across the stack
• Develop clean, maintainable, well-tested code and advocate automated testing practices
• Drive quality, engineering standards, and continuous improvement aligned with ING’s Agile/CD methods
• Mentor engineers and promote a culture of collaboration, ownership and growth

As a Lead Software Engineer reporting to the Chapter Lead, you will work within Scrum teams while helping drive engineering excellence across the organization. You will mentor developers, champion Agile and Continuous Delivery practices, and contribute to building robust, scalable, and production-ready software that enhances the digital banking experience.

What you’ll do

• Lead the end-to-end software development lifecycle, from ideation and design through to delivery and production support.
• Design, build, and maintain secure, scalable, and high-performing solutions across the technology stack.
• Develop clean, maintainable, and well-tested code, leveraging modern engineering and automated testing practices.
• Drive quality, engineering standards, and continuous improvement in line with ING’s Agile and Continuous Delivery ways of working.
• Mentor and coach engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, knowledge sharing, ownership, and professional growth.
• Champion Agile, security-by-design, and engineering best practices while effectively communicating progress, risks, and outcomes to stakeholders.

What we’re looking for

• Strong software engineering background with 10+ years of development experience, including technical leadership of large-scale applications and projects.
• Proven expertise in modern web development using JavaScript, HTML, CSS, web components, and responsive design, with a strong focus on user experience and accessibility.
• Deep understanding of software delivery practices, including automated testing, CI/CD, DevOps, source control, and Agile ways of working.
• Experience designing and delivering secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions across the full technology stack.
• Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence, mentor, and work effectively in complex environments.
• A continuous learning mindset, demonstrated through community involvement, knowledge sharing, innovation, and staying current with emerging technologies and industry trends.
