Job summary

Altana, the network for trusted trade, is seeking a seasoned data engineer to lead and scale our data pipelines in Australia. You will design, build, and operate distributed data systems powering our state-of-the-art network analysis, ML, data ingestion and fusion capabilities, collaborating with engineers, data scientists and product managers.

You bring 8+ years of data engineering experience, a track record with public sector projects, and strong skills in data models, security and governance,

Qualifications

• 8+ years of technical experience in data engineering or closely related roles.
• Experience working with or within the public sector.
• Extensive experience across design, development, and maintenance of complex data models from diverse sources.
• Proven track record leading full lifecycle of data ingestion and standardisation pipelines at scale.
• Commitment to sustainable software development, self-healing data workflows, and data governance.
• Experience with cloud architectures and administration (AWS/Azure).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with external stakeholders.
• Strong focus on engineering excellence and knowledge sharing.

Responsibilities

• Develop, deploy and improve distributed data pipelines powering Altana’s network analysis, ML and data ingestion.
• Drive scalable technology to meet evolving customer requirements.
• Support reliability, cost controls and security reviews.
• Act as technical expert in client meetings bridging government requirements and architecture.
• Collaborate with engineers, data scientists and product managers.
• Evaluate new tools and best practices for data pipelines.
