Job description

Lead Consultant - Energy and Sustainability

Schneider Electric is leading the digital transformation of energy management and automation. Our technologies enable the world to use energy in a safe, efficient and sustainable manner. We strive to promote a global economy that is both ecologically viable and highly productive.

The Opportunity:

Our SE Advisory division is a global leader in energy and sustainability, helping organisations navigate the energy transition, reduce emissions, manage energy risk and turn ambitious sustainability goals into practical, commercially viable strategies.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Consultant – Energy and Sustainability to join our team, based in Melbourne or Sydney, with responsibility for supporting clients and leading engagements across the APAC region.

This is a senior, client-facing consulting role for an experienced energy and sustainability professional who can connect sustainability and climate strategy with the commercial realities of energy markets. You will lead complex client engagements, advise senior stakeholders and help organisations translate energy, carbon, regulatory and commercial considerations into clear, actionable energy-transition strategies.

The day to day:

At Schneider Electric, no two days are the same. However, typical activities that the Lead Consultant will carry out include:

  • Leading complex energy and sustainability consulting engagements across APAC, with accountability for scope, quality, commercial outcomes and client delivery;
  • Advising clients on energy-transition pathways spanning energy efficiency, electrification, renewable electricity, storage, flexibility, emissions reduction and resilience;
  • Leading executive-level conversations, workshops and decision forums, translating complex energy, sustainability and market issues into clear strategic choices and actions;
  • Developing enterprise, portfolio and site-level energy-transition strategies and practical implementation roadmaps;
  • Connecting sustainability ambitions with energy-market considerations including electricity procurement, pricing, risk management, renewable-energy contracting and market intelligence;
  • Managing complex engagements across scope, schedule, budget, resources, risks and stakeholder communication;
  • Supporting strategic opportunities through solution design, scoping, effort estimation, proposal development and commercial review;
  • Providing technical guidance and coaching to consultants and multidisciplinary project teams across the region;
  • Contributing to the development of methodologies, case studies, thought leadership and reusable solutions that strengthen our energy and sustainability capability.

About You

We don’t want to narrow the field; however, we believe the below will set you up for success:

  • Significant experience within sustainability consulting, energy strategy, energy markets, climate advisory or a closely related field, typically around 10+ years;
  • Proven experience leading complex sustainability, climate, decarbonisation or energy-transition engagements in a client-facing consulting environment;
  • Strong understanding of energy markets, including electricity procurement, pricing, risk management, renewable-energy contracting and market intelligence;
  • Experience advising large, energy-intensive or rapidly growing organisations and translating complex challenges into practical strategies;
  • Strong commercial acumen, including solution design, scoping, pricing and management of project economics;
  • Excellent stakeholder management, executive communication, facilitation and relationship-building skills;
  • Degree qualified in engineering, energy, economics, environmental science, sustainability or another relevant discipline;
  • Collaborative and pragmatic approach, with the ability to lead multidisciplinary and cross-country teams;
  • Ability and willingness to undertake regular travel across APAC.

Benefits of Working for Schneider Electric in this role:

  • Flexibility at work and global family leave
  • Share program with employee discounts and company contributions
  • Opportunity to purchase additional annual leave
  • Employee discounts (Clipsal, JB Hi-Fi, Hoyts and more)
  • Ongoing training and career development
  • Global support network
  • Inclusive and collaborative team environment

If you are passionate about the energy transition and enjoy helping organisations turn sustainability ambition into practical, commercially sound action, we would love to hear from you!
