Job summary

Octopus Australia is seeking a Lead Civil Engineer to strengthen civil engineering across utility‑scale solar, wind and battery projects in Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane. You will shape standards, steer technical and commercial decisions, and mentor colleagues while expanding civil capabilities across a major renewable energy portfolio.

The role offers pathways into project and people management, with hybrid working arrangements and exposure to adjacent disciplines.

Qualifications

• Proven civil engineering experience on large renewable energy projects.
• Involvement across pre- and post-financial close/construction phases.
• Experience coordinating civil interfaces with electrical/grid/other teams.
• Contract negotiation and tender documentation experience.
• Ability to manage design reviews, risk, and constructability improvements.
• Knowledge of Australian approvals and standards.

Responsibilities

• Define, structure and manage civil workstream scope, budget, schedule, HSE, risks and quality across projects.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to colleagues; develop templates and governance.
• Own civil interfaces with internal teams and educate stakeholders on objectives, risks and opportunities.
• Contribute to contracting strategies, scope, tender docs, and post‑award engineering management.
• Prepare/review technical specifications and construction documentation.
• Review EPC/contractor submissions, RFIs, variations, and non‑conformances for risk management.
• Manage resolution of punch list issues on operating assets post‑COD.
• Coordinate design reviews, site inspections and technical workshops.
