Job summary

Worley is seeking a Lead / Principal Power Systems Engineer to join its growing ANZ Power team. You will provide technical leadership for complex power system studies and mentor engineers across Australia and New Zealand.

You will lead grid connection strategies and support energy transition projects, with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes for utilities, renewables and industrial clients.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent; postgraduate qualifications advantageous.
• Extensive experience in power systems engineering within utilities, consulting, renewables or heavy industry.
• Demonstrated experience leading technical teams and delivering complex power system projects from concept through to commissioning.
• Advanced expertise in power system analysis and modelling using tools such as DigSILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E, PSCAD.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and oversight for complex power system studies, including load flow, fault level, transient stability, EMT, harmonic, protection and network performance assessments.
• Lead multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring delivery of high-quality technical outcomes, client satisfaction, budget and schedule adherence.
• Act as a subject matter expert for transmission, distribution and generation projects across Australia and New Zealand.
• Lead grid connection strategies, registration activities and compliance assessments for renewable generation, BESS, industrial facilities and energy technologies.
• Mentor, coach and develop junior engineers, fostering technical excellence within the ANZ Power team.
• Contribute to business development activities, including proposals, tenders, and client engagement.

As Australia and New Zealand continue to transform their energy systems, we are seeking a Lead / Principal Power Systems Engineer to join our growing Power team. This is a key technical leadership role within our ANZ business, supporting major utility, transmission, renewable energy, industrial and energy transition projects.

You will act as a trusted advisor to clients, lead complex power system studies and grid connection programs, mentor and develop engineers, and provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary project teams. Leveraging your deep understanding of Australian and/or New Zealand power networks, you will help clients solve complex technical challenges and deliver successful project outcomes across the full project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and oversight for complex power system studies, including load flow, fault level, transient stability, EMT, harmonic, protection and network performance assessments.
• Lead multidisciplinary project teams, ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality technical outcomes, client satisfaction, budget performance and schedule commitments.
• Act as a subject matter expert for transmission, distribution and generation projects across Australia and New Zealand.
• Lead grid connection strategies, registration activities and compliance assessments for renewable generation, BESS, industrial facilities and emerging energy technologies.
• Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, developing long-term relationships and supporting strategic decision-making on network, generation and energy transition projects.
• Provide technical review, governance and quality assurance for power system models, studies and reports prepared by project teams.
• Mentor, coach and develop junior and intermediate engineers, fostering technical excellence and capability growth across the ANZ Power team.
• Contribute to business development activities, including proposals, tenders, client engagement and identification of new project opportunities.
• Support the development of Worley’s power systems capability, technical standards and best practices across ANZ and the broader global business.
• Represent Worley in industry forums, technical working groups and client workshops as a recognised technical leader.

About You

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent, with postgraduate qualifications considered advantageous.
• Extensive experience in power systems engineering gained within utilities, consulting, renewable energy developers, transmission organisations or heavy industry.
• Demonstrated experience leading technical teams and delivering complex power system projects from concept through to commissioning.
• Advanced expertise in power system analysis and modelling using tools such as DigSILENT PowerFactory, PSS/E, PSCAD and related software platforms.
• Deep understanding of the Australian and/or New Zealand power systems, including transmission and distribution network planning, operation and grid connection requirements.
• Strong working knowledge of relevant market, regulatory and technical frameworks, including NEM, AEMO, Transpower, EDB and applicable grid codes and standards.
• Proven ability to engage effectively with clients, regulators, utilities and project stakeholders at both technical and commercial levels.
• Strong mentoring and leadership capabilities, with a passion for developing people and building high-performing teams.
• Commercial awareness with experience supporting proposals, business development and client relationship management.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
