With one of the largest listed defence company market capitalisations in Australia, part of the ASX200 index,and having raised approximately $250m in 2024 alone, DroneShield is undergoing hypergrowth stage, fuelled by rapidly increasing use of drones for nefarious applications, from battlefield, to terrorism, to contraband delivery and commercial espionage.

This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Sydney CBD. There are approximately 380 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 500 staff by end of 2026. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA),Netherlands,Denmark,Mexicoand Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.

About the role

This newly created position will report to the General Counsel. As DroneShield continues to expand rapidly, this role is critical in ensuring that our legal frameworks keep pace with our growth. You will play a key part in safeguarding the company’s interests, supporting strategic initiatives, and ensuring compliance across a complex, global operating environment. Working closely with the business, you will help enable innovation while managing legal risk.

Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations

  • Draft and review a variety of contracts, including technology, engineering, manufacturing, and procurement agreements.
  • Assist in legal matters related to intellectual property, export controls, and employment law, collaborating with the General Counsel and outside legal counsel as needed.
  • Engage with regulators such as the ACMA, ASIC, ASX, and DEC.
  • Support in the development and maintenance of corporate policies.
  • Conduct legal due diligence for potential mergers and acquisitions.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills

  • Law degree from an accredited Australian or European university
  • Admission to practice in Australia
  • 2 to 4 years of law firm experience, preferably with exposure to technology, engineering, or manufacturing sectors.
  • Interest in intellectual property (IP), export controls, and employment law, with a global perspective.
  • Attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, startup environment.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
