Job summary

North East Water in Wangaratta is seeking a Lagoon Wastewater Treatment Operator to support 18 lagoon-based plants. You will monitor processes, sample water, maintain records, and assist with fault resolution across the network.

The role is full-time with a monthly roster and flexible work options. Pre-employment checks apply, and a current driver’s licence is required. Training and development are available with strong community impact.

Qualifications

• Ability to problem solve, prioritise and complete tasks within set timeframes under minimal supervision.
• Basic computer skills with the ability to conduct system checks and input information into systems.
• Knowledge and experience in wastewater treatment, the water industry or experience in a position with a transferrable skill set i.e. treatment, sampling and testing, or similar.
• Certificate III in Wastewater Treatment or equivalent is not required but an advantage. Willingness to obtain is essential (support provided).
• Current driver’s licence (required).

Responsibilities

• Undertake routine wastewater quality sampling and basic field testing.
• Maintain accurate records of operational data and adhere to OH&S standards.
• Undertake maintenance, inspections and checks on wastewater treatment plants.
• Respond to alarms and wastewater treatment plant faults.
• Monitor and operate wastewater treatment plant processes and equipment, including support to contractors and internal teams for fault resolution.
• Adjust treatment processes and chemical dosing to maintain discharge quality standards.
• Support irrigation of recycled water activities aligned with lagoon-based sites.
• Support troubleshooting and problem solving on process, equipment and system issues.
• Carry out routine maintenance, cleaning and housekeeping across plants.
• Support an on-call roster from Tuesday to Tuesday every 5 weeks (once competent).
