Job summary

James Cook University invites applications for the role of Manager, Laboratory and Technical Services (Engineering and Physical Sciences). Based at the Townsville Bebegu Yumba campus, you will lead planning, delivery and safety of laboratory and technical services across multiple disciplines to support teaching and student learning.

You will build a high-performing, collaborative team, drive continuous improvement, ensure WHS compliance, and provide strategic guidance on equipment, facilities

Qualifications

• Management experience within an engineering, chemistry or comparable technical service environment.
• Leadership experience in complex technical operational environments.
• Knowledge of contemporary engineering and chemical science technologies, specialised laboratory and workshop equipment.
• Experience leading safety and compliance within complex laboratory, workshop and specialised environments, with WHS knowledge.
• Experience managing complex service demands across multiple disciplines and locations, with resource planning capabilities.
• Familiarity with accreditation requirements for technical service delivery in engineering or chemistry.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, prioritisation and delivery of laboratory and technical services across disciplines, facilities and campuses.
• Ensure safe, compliant teaching services meet standards, timeframes and stakeholder expectations.
• Optimise facilities, specialist equipment and resources to support learning and operational outcomes.
• Build a high‑performing, collaborative workplace culture and strengthen cross‑team planning.
• Provide high‑level technical and operational advice on feasibility, safety and resource implications of planned activities.
