Job summary

Sunshine Coast Health Institute Laboratory Scientist role assists in supporting SCHI PC2 research laboratories and teaching spaces at SCUH, ensuring safe, efficient operations and active participation in safety culture.

The position reports to the Laboratory Manager and contributes to development of procedural processes, training, and risk management while maintaining compliance with hazardous substances and storage standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate the operation, optimisation and continuous improvement of specialist research laboratory equipment and associated services, acting as the primary technical resource in the absence of the Laboratory Manager.
• Coordinate, deliver and evaluate laboratory inductions, equipment training programs and competency assessments to ensure ongoing user compliance and capability.
• Provide high-level technical expertise and independent troubleshooting for complex equipment, laboratory processes and research protocols.
• Oversee laboratory systems relating to hazardous substances, biological materials and storage compliance, ensuring legislative and best-practice requirements are maintained.
