About the role

Reporting to the Biomedical Science Capability Leader, UC is seeking a committed Laboratory Manager to join our Biomedical Science team in the Faculty of Science and Technology on a continuing part time basis (17.5 hours a week). Managing laboratory operations and performing general laboratory duties, this position supports both teaching and research activities, contributing to the development of cutting-edge scientific programs and fostering a safe, efficient, and innovative laboratory environment.

Key responsibilities
  • Oversee Laboratory Operations – Manage day-to-day activities across teaching and research labs including rostering, ensuring smooth and efficient functioning.
  • Ensure Safety and Compliance – Maintain high standards of WH&S, biosafety (OGTR, PC2), and animal ethics, and respond to incidents and audits.
  • Manage Equipment and Assets – Oversee laboratory equipment performance, maintenance, procurement and cleanliness, and asset tracking.
  • Support Teaching and Research – Provide technical advice, train staff and students, and assist with scientific programs and reporting.
  • Coordinate Inductions and Training – Lead laboratory inductions and maintain records for staff and student training.
  • Administer Laboratory Finances – Manage cost accounts, bench fees, consumables purchasing, and equipment bookings.
  • Perform General Laboratory Duties – Stocking consumables, cleaning glassware, emptying biohazard bins, operating the autoclave, etc.

  • Be proactive and detail-oriented professional with a strong background in laboratory management, safety compliance, and technical support.
